An object of the invention is to provide a completely novel technique for diagnosing cancer (particularly small cell lung cancer). As a result of intensive studies made by the inventor, the object was achieved by finding that particularly the expression level of TSLC1 and Rac1 (such as overexpression, sugar chain modification and activation) in the molecular pathway of TSLC1 is closely related to the onset of cancer (particularly small cell lung cancer). That is, a method comprises the steps of A) observing an increase in the expression or modification of a sugar chain of TSLC1, or activation of Rac1; and B) indicating a manifestation of cancer by the increased expression, modified sugar chain or a change in the activation compared with a normal individual.
