The method involves measuring a distance between a part of components of a wiper system guiding a wiper movement and a fixed point relative to a body of a vehicle by a distance sensor (5), during the wiper movement in an area of an upper turning point position. Data is obtained from the distance measurement by a control unit, and the data is used for controlling a wiper drive for approaching a defined turning point position. An independent claim is also included for a device for measuring a distance between a part of a component of a mechatronic wiper system of a vehicle and a fixed point relative to a body of the vehicle.
