The method involves gripping a printing material (102) e.g. paper, with a transport unit (104). Runners (106, 108) are relatively moved in a transport direction. The printing material is transported by the runners. The transport unit is rotated in a lateral position correction angular range for correcting a lateral position of the printing material by the runners. A crossmember (120) is translated in a longitudinal direction. The transport unit is rotated out of the lateral position correction angular range to retain correction of the lateral position of the printing material by the runners.
