A method of collecting data to be used in examining whether or not a subject suffering from a disease which comprises the step of adding hematoporphyrin and/or its derivative to lymphocytes collected from the subject, the step of irradiating the mixture obtained in the above step with light having a specific wavelength to thereby induce the generation of excitation light from hematoporphyrin and/or its derivative, and the step of measuring the luminescence dose achieved in the above step, wherein it is judged that the subject suffers from cancer at a high possibility in the case where the luminescence dose measured in the above step is larger than the luminescence dose obtained from a healthy subject by the same steps; and an apparatus for examining a disease to be used in the method as described above.
