<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve following property of a charging roll with respect to an image carrier, the charging roll being rotated following the image carrier, and to improve the transferability of foreign matter from the charging roll to the image carrier. <P>SOLUTION: Turning on or off a discharge lamp is controlled so as to increase a difference between the potential of the surface of a photoreceptor entering a nip between the charging roll and the photoreceptor and the potential of the charging roll. Thereafter, turning on or off the discharge lamp is controlled so that the difference between the potential of the surface of the photoreceptor entering the nip between the charging roll and the photoreceptor and the potential of the charging roll is decreased and also the direction of an electric field between the charging roll and the photoreceptor entering the nip between the charging roll and the photoreceptor is changed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
