PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing device for an internal combustion engine for supporting a crankshaft, which smoothly operates the crankshaft during operation of the internal combustion engine and achieves high output of the internal combustion engine without increasing the displacement even if a cylinder pressure in combustion is set to be high, and a high rigid type bearing cap is applied as a component. SOLUTION: In the bearing device for the internal combustion engine having a bearing opening defined by a bearing surface supporting the crankshaft converting the reciprocating motion of a piston in operation of the internal combustion engine to the rotating motion through a connecting rod, a cross section shape of the bearing opening perpendicular to the rotating axis of the crankshaft is an elliptic shape wherein the reciprocating motion direction of the piston is a major axis and a direction perpendicular to the reciprocating motion direction of the piston is a minor axis.
