PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil cooler mounting structure for an engine capable of reducing manufacturing cost of the engine and provide a method for manufacturing an engine of either specifications requiring an oil cooler or specifications not requiring the oil cooler at low cost. SOLUTION: The oil cooler mounting structure for the engine providing the oil cooler on a wall part of an engine block and supplying oil in an oil supply passage formed in a wall part to the oil cooler includes a main oil supply passage, an oil cooler mounting seat, an oil introducing communication path branching off from a middle of the main oil supply passage and extending to the oil cooler mounting seat, an oil delivery communication path branching off from the middle of the main oil supply passage and extending to the oil cooler mounting seat, and a closing plug member provided in the main oil supply passage at a position between the oil introducing communication path and the oil delivery communication path and shutting off flow of oil in the main oil supply path.
