PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a colored metal pigment which can take various colors and can obtain various variations for designs, to provide a method for producing the same, and to provide a coating using the colored metal pigment. SOLUTION: This method for producing the flaky colored metal pigment comprises coating the surface of a substrate with a mold releasing agent comprising an acrylic resin, a urethane resin, a polyester resin, a polystyrene resin or the like, depositing a desired metal on the mold releasing agent by an electroless plating method to form an electroless plated coating film, depositing a metal or alloy different from the electroless plated coating film on the surface of the electroless plated coating film by an electroless plating method and/or an electroplating method to form a plated coating film, dissolving away the mold releasing agent in a solvent, and then crushing the left coating films with ultrasonic vibrations or a homogenizer to obtain a flaky colored metal pigment having a thickness of 0.02 to 0.4μm and a diameter of 2 to 500μm.
