The automatic twin-circuit hydraulic brake system for vehicles has the return pump (RFP*) for the rear axle brake circuit connected on the suction side to a brake fluid reservoir (2d) rather than the master cylinder (2c). The master cylinder is divided into two chambers, one of which (2cHa) is connected to the rear axle circuit and is connected to a pressure sensor (4) which detects braking by the driver and sends control signals to the pump.
