Preparation of thick-walled cast pieces with a wall thickness of greater than 30 mm comprises using a cast iron with spheroidal graphite and inoculation agent, where the inoculation agent comprises a bismuth- or cerium mixed metal containing inoculation based on ferrosilicon compounds (a) and an inoculation containing at least silicon, aluminum, calcium and iron (b), where the weight ratio of (a) and (b) is 1:2-4.
