A method is claimed for cleaning an open-ended spinning machine rotor, having multiple spinning sites (1) in parallel, each with a spinning box (2) containing a drivable rotor (4), and a manual or partially automatic start-up device, each rotor being braked (13) before opening the box. The method involves manually applying a cleaning element (16) to the braked rotor and causing relative rotational movement between the rotor and cleaning element. An independent claim is included for a corresponding manual rotor cleaning device (15), including a device for driving the rotor (4) and/or the cleaning element (16).
