<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization conversion device which hardly degrades the degree of polarization even when a reflection film has a partial transmission property and luminous flux from a light source is directly made incident. <P>SOLUTION: When a diffusion layer 7 is disposed in proximity to the reflection film 4, stray light rays SL1, SL2 are made incident on a diffusion layer 7 through a prism body 11. Such stray light rays SL1, SL2 are scattered by the diffusion layer 7, therefore, can be prevented from being emitted as it is from the emission side of the polarization conversion device 1 through the prism body 10, and emission light EL emitted from the polarization conversion device 1 can be maintained in the state of a high degree of polarization containing S-polarization only. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
