PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp capable of obtaining a luminance of the same degree as or slightly lower than that of a general fluorescent lamp, without using mercury substantially, constituted at a low cost. SOLUTION: The discharge lamp is composed of a plurality of fluorescent tubes 10 in which a fluorescent material 11 is installed at the inner peripheral surface and which is connected in series, cold cathodes 12, 12 arranged at both ends of the respective fluorescent tubes 10, and a filler gas which is sealed into the respective fluorescent tubes 10, which substantially contains no mercury and which is mainly composed of argon gas, and problems are solved by the discharge lamp of the filler partial pressure of argon gas of 600 to 2,000 Pa or more.
