PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a time for which image data, particularly moving image data, can be recorded, and enable quick reproduction/display of image data. SOLUTION: An image signal is converted into a digital image signal. The digital image signal is compressed into first image data by a first recording method, and is compressed into second image data, by a second recording method having a coding rate lower than that of the first recording method. The second image data is recorded into a recording medium, while the first image data is transmitted to external apparatuses. The compression of the image signal into the first image data and the transmission to the external apparatus are performed, after the connections to the external apparatus have been established.
