<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative active material for a lithium secondary battery having high energy density per volume, high capacity, high discharge potential, and high safety. <P>SOLUTION: The negative active material for the lithium secondary battery comprises compound powder represented by L<SB>x</SB>M<SB>y</SB>V<SB>z</SB>O<SB>2+d</SB>, polyhedral particles having a plurality of flat parts on the particle surfaces are contained in the compound powder in a ratio of 20-100% to the number of the whole particles of the compound, the plurality of flat parts are observed as viewed from above in the polyhedral particles, three or more edge lines forming boundary lines to the flat parts are observed, the edge line is formed by adjoining the two flat parts at 90° or more, and the relation of each length of each edge line and the maximum diameter R<SB>max</SB>satisfies L/R<SB>max</SB>>0.1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
