<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmitter having a signal generation function capable of achieving a high transmission rate and a long transmission distance while halving the modulation bandwidth, and to provide an optical phase modulator. <P>SOLUTION: The optical phase modulator for modulating the phase of signal light subjected to intensity modulation is controlled such that the phase of signal light under first emission state and the phase of signal light under second and third emission states are inverted when the signal light subjected to intensity modulation transits from the first emission state to the second emission state via nonemission state, and when it transits from the first emission state to the third emission state via two or more nonemission states. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
