PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve suitable strobe photographing by selecting a high reflection area from a field image displayed on an EVF and executing dimming operation in a state that a reflector is removed.

SOLUTION: The method for controlling an image processing apparatus comprises a display process for displaying a field image, an area selection process for selecting an area corresponding to an operation result of an operation member from the field image displayed on a display means and a luminance value calculation means for correcting the luminance value of an area set in accordance with the selection result of the area selection process and calculating a luminance value corresponding to the field image.
