PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method for forming a stain resistant coat layer by repeatedly applying an aqueous paint to form overcoat layers capable of keeping a sufficient adhesion strength between the neighboring coat layers and improving the stain resistance of the coat layer thus formed. SOLUTION: The coating method which enables the repeated application of the same kind of aqueous paints to form overcoat layers employs an aqueous paint comprising a synthetic resin emulsion (A) having a reactive functional group capable of reacting with a hydrazide group, a hydrazide compound (B) having a hydrazide group and a nitrogen containing skeleton other than a hydrazide group, and a modified condensation product (C) of an alkoxysilane having a polyoxyalkylene group, which is formulated by blending 100 parts per weight of the solid component of the synthetic resin emulsion (A), 0.1 to 20 parts per weight of the hydrazide compound (B), and 1 to 40 parts per weight in terms of SiO<SB>2</SB>of the modified condensation product (C) of an alkoxysilane.
