The device has a computing device (11) for computing several center of gravity parameters representing the center of gravity position depending on determined operating state parameters reproducing an operating state of the vehicle related to driving. The computing device draws conclusions about the existence of a defined center of gravity height and/or class by comparing the computed center of gravity parameters. An independent claim is also included for a method of estimating a vehicle's center of gravity position.
