A target for X-ray tubes, consists, at least at the electron impact area, of an alloy comprising:- Pt 0À05-5% Ir 0-2% Os 0-5% and Re 0-10%, the balance being tungsten. The target may be made by powder metallurgy from powders which have been produced by simultaneous reduction. The example refers to forming a layer of the above composition as a powder on Mo powder in a die, compacting at 4 tons/cm<SP>2</SP> and then sintering in vacuo or in a neutral atmosphere at over 2000‹C. Spraying of the alloy on to a Mo or graphite substrate, preferably with a Re or Os interlayer in the latter case, is referred to.</p> |
