A homogeneous, mechanically-worked non- soep detergent laundry bar comprises, by weight of the bar, from 5 to 50% of an alkyl benzene sulphonic acid neutralized with at least the stoichiometric amount of trisodium orthophosphate. The weight of trisodium orthophosphate may be one half that of the alkyl benzene sulphonic acid. Optional ingredients are (a) up to 10% of a foam-boosting detergent, e.g. sodium lauryl sulphate, (b) up to 20% sodium tripolyphosphate, (c) up to 20% tetrasodium pyrophosphate, (d) up to 50% NaHCO 3 , (e) up to 20% sodium toluene sulphonate, (f) silicate anticorrosives and other minor conventional ingredients. The alkyl benzene sulphonic acids contain 8-18 C atoms. The sulphonic acid is neutralized with hot, concentrated, aqueous solution of Na 3 PO 4 , additional components are added, and the mixture is extruded or moulded at 120‹ to 200‹ F. into suitable forms which are cut into bars.</p> |
