NEW PROTEIN RELATED TO BLOOD PRESSURE CONTROL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new protein that performs an important function of functionally expressing a potassium channel to have a potassium recycling mechanism and an ion transporter and a gene (polynucleotide) encoding the protein and to provide a method for controlling expression of a potassium channel and an ion transporter using the protein and various kinds of screening methods.

SOLUTION: The new protein related to blood pressure control is especially a splicing variant of MAG11 and is a protein (AY595891) expressing at the side of a basement membrane (blood vessel side) of renal distal tubule and a protein (AY595892) expressing at the luminal side of renal distal tubule. The DNA encodes the protein. The method for screening a blood pressure control factor for regulating or controlling potassium discharge and/or sodium reabsorption comprises using the expression amount of the protein as an index.
