PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup device for both still picture/moving picture capable of taking a still picture at optimum timing without missing a photo opportunity during photographing a moving picture and continuously recording the moving picture without interruption. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with an image generating part 3 for generating a still picture or a moving picture, a switching part (SW 1) for performing switching as to whether to output the still picture or output the moving picture, a first storage control part 14 for storing the still picture outputted from the switching part in a circulation type storing part 6 that circulates in a prescribed cycle, a moving picture interpolating part 8 for generating an interpolated moving picture by interpolating so that the same frame number will be attained as that of the moving picture from the still picture outputted from the switching part, a second storage control part 15 for storing the moving picture switched and outputted by the switching part and the interpolated moving picture in the storing part 10, and a mode switching part 11 for making the switching part output the still picture or the moving picture or making the moving picture interpolating part 8 generate an interpolated moving picture.
