PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonographic instrument ideal for the analysis of the character of a tissue. SOLUTION: A transmitting/receiving part 102 executes a B mode transmission in which an ultrasonic wave is transmitted altering the direction of an ultrasonic beam and an image formation part 106 which forms a B mode image from a tissue data acquired by the B mode transmission. When the direction of the ultrasonic beam is designated by a cursor on the B mode image, a receiving/transmitting control part 111 controls the transmitting/receiving part 102 to execute an M mode transmission by transmitting the ultrasonic wave repeatedly in the direction of the ultrasonic beam designated. When the direction of the ultrasonic beam is designated with the cursor on the B mode image, the image formation part 106 forms a display image which represents a side-by-side display of a freeze image of the B mode image and the M mode image.
