PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively perform switching determination of the need for RTS/CTS protocol, without having to prepare and update the list of hidden terminals. SOLUTION: According to this communication method, each terminal effectively determines whether a hidden terminal exists, shifts to a collision nonsuppression mode, only when it is determined that there is no possibility that a hidden terminal exists, can avoid the unnecessary performance of collision suppression operation and can improve the transmission efficiency, while maintaining collision suppression effects. Accompanying this, improvement in power consumption of the terminal can be expected, because collision suppression operation is performed to an absolute minimum. Since in the present invention the list of hidden terminals need not be prepared or updated, it it not necessary to temporarily stop data transmission; and transmission throughput will not deteriorate temporarily and rapidly. Accordingly, the present invention is very effective for a terminal that transmits video and sound AV streams, which do not allow a transmission stream to be interrupted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
