A device and a method for performing operation according to inputted speech are provided to enable a user to conveniently operate a multimedia instant-on function and other functions by the speech inputted through a wired/wireless device like a headset, and control the function with software to facilitate addition of the new function. A communicator(310) receives a control packet including a speech signal from the wired/wireless communicator. A feature extractor(320) extracts feature from the received speech signal. A control code extractor(330) extracts a control code corresponding to the extracted feature from a control code list. A control code output part(340) outputs the extracted control code. The control codes stored in the control code list are added, deleted, or modified by the user.
