A display apparatus is provided to enable a user to desired character information at a desired time by converting image data of the character information desired by the user in a displayed image picture into character data and storing the character data. A signal processing part(20) processes an inputted image signal so that the inputted image signal can be displayed on a display part(30). A user input part(40) designates at least one area on an image picture displayed on the display part. A control part(50) recognizes the area designated through the user input part, analyzes image data displayed in the recognized area in order to convert the image data into character data, and stores the converted character data in a memory(60) by recognized areas. The control part stores the converted character data in the memory by the recognized areas if the converted character data is normal.
