PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a recording medium from being wound around a fixing member surface by adequately controlling a gap between a separating means tip and the fixing member. SOLUTION: A spacer 22 is mounted nearby the tip of a separation claw 21 and made to abut against a projection part of a core bar of a fixing roller. Consequently, a gap of predetermined size is formed between the tip 22a of the separation claw and a peripheral surface of the fixing roller 11. The gap is kept by the spacer 22, so that the gap between the fixing roller and separating claw can adequately be controlled for a long period. Consequently, a paper sheet is prevented from being wound around the fixing roller surface, and the fixing roller surface is never damaged since a contact member is not made to abut against the fixing roller surface (fixing surface).
