PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide basic copper carbonate capable of producing copper oxide readily dispersing into primary particles at the time of mixing, with high productivity, and copper oxide and to provide a method for producing copper oxide. SOLUTION: This basic copper carbonate is produced by adding an aqueous copper nitrate solution to an aqueous solution of an ammonium salt, to cause a reverse neutralization reaction.
