PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new material which substitutes for a plastic composed of a synthetic resin. SOLUTION: This method for producing a hardened material derived from vegetable fibers is characterized by fibrillating vegetable fibers, stirring the fibrillated fibers together with water, and then drying the stirred product to obtain the hardened material. The hardened material can be applied to the housings of electric appliances, disposable dishes, and the like. When the product produced from the hardened material is scrapped in the underground, environmental disruption due to dioxin is not caused, because the product is composed of the material derived from vegetable fibers.
