PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system capable of improving security using a less number of encryption keys. SOLUTION: An authentication request device 20 and an authentication object device 10 hold a common encryption key. The authentication request device 20 encrypts a code for authentication, and a different part in the authentication codes is selected as a replacement object. The encrypted authentication code and the information about the replacement object are transmitted to the authentication object device 10. The replacement object of the authentication code is replaced to generate a comparison object code. The authentication object device 10 replaces the replacement object of the authentication code acquired by decrypting the code that has been transmitted, to generate a replacement authentication code. The replacement authentication code is encrypted and transmitted to the authentication request device 20. The authentication request device 20 compares the replacement authentication code acquired by decrypting the code that has been transmitted with the comparison object code, for authenticating the authentication object device 10.
