METHOD OF DETECTING ERROR IN SKIRT POSITION DETECTOR OF CONVERTER EXHAUST GAS TREATMENT DEVICE, AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING CORRECTION OF SKIRT POSITION WHEN ERROR IS DETECTED

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of detecting an error in a skirt position of a converter exhaust gas treatment device for respectively calculating average values of a pair of position detectors for determining the error of the position detector and also correcting the position using a proper average value by eliminating the failing position detector, and a method of controlling the correction of the skirt position when the error is detected.

SOLUTION: In this method, an average value 1 and an average value 2 are calculated by first and second average value computing units 21 and 22 from signal outputs of a pair of position detectors. A detector error monitor means 27 acquires a difference between the average values. An error determination means 28 determines the error of the position detector when the difference between the average values is a certain constant or larger. The error if determined is output to a switch control means 30 with which an operator is concerned. The switch control means 30 turns ON only a switch of a position correction computing unit Hhn associated with the position detector in which the position correction is needed, and outputs an output with the position correction computed to either the average value computing unit 21 or 22.
