PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing method wherein generation of a density difference in a dot line following divided driving is suppressed, and also an increase of the density difference in the dot line due to an increase of a dividing number of the divided driving can be suppressed, and to provide a printer. SOLUTION: The printing method is a printing method of dividing and dividedly driving a plurality of heating elements to element blocks by using a line thermal head. The method has an application time determination step of determining a voltage application time so that the voltage application time of voltage application to a first element block becomes not shorter than the voltage application time of voltage application to a second element block which is later than the first element block in an order of voltage application when the same dot line is formed. At the same time, the voltage application time is determined to increase an increase time of the voltage application time of voltage application to an element block fastest in the order of voltage application to the voltage application time of voltage application to an element block latest in the order of voltage application when the same dot line is formed, according to the increase of the dividing number.
