PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dental plaque detection system and a method including plaque disclosing agent having a superior external-appearance stability (no grout) under high temperature, highly precisely detecting the plaque, and preventing easy staining of the interdentium, the gingiva and the labia oris. SOLUTION: This plaque detection system is provided with the plaque disclosing agent containing (a) Monascus yellow, (b) nonionic surfactant and (c) glycerin, and a light emitting device 10 emitting a light having a wavelength within 250-500 nm to an object in the oral cavity stuck with the plaque disclosing agent. This plaque detection method is characterized in sticking the plaque disclosing agent having the constitution to the object in the oral cavity and then illuminating the light having the wavelength within 250-500 nm to the object.
