<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To early start an internal combustion engine when starting the engine from a stop state. <P>SOLUTION: When the rotational speed Ne of the engine reaches a predetermined rotational speed Nref and a combustion start timing comes, and an engine ECU receives an engine start command, the engine ECU sets the combustion start timing immediately after the bottom dead point of the compression stroke (S300), and the ignition timing at the retard-angle ignition position (S310). Then, the ECU performs the combustion control by the compression stroke cylinder injection until a predetermined time te is elapsed after the combustion start timing comes (S320 to 370). Since the compression stroke cylinder injection is performed when starting the engine from a stop state, the initial combustion can be performed earlier than in the case that the intake stroke cylinder injection and the intake stroke port injection are performed.
