<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire PIN (personal identification number) information of an IC card used in an image forming apparatus at the side of the image forming apparatus handling the IC card. <P>SOLUTION: Personal identification information presettable by a user, the number of times of failures of authentication of the personal identification information and the number of times of allowed trials of the verification preset beforehand are held in an IC card. This image forming apparatus reads personal identification information from the IC card by using an IC card R/W device 6, verifies the IC card with the user by referencing the personal identification information stored in the IC card by using a CPU 101, and then compares the number of times of allowed trials of the verification with the number of times of authentication failures. When the number of times of the number of times of allowed trials of the verification exceeds the number of allowed times, the authentication processing of the IC card is invalidated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
