PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation angle detection device capable of improving a resolution with respect to a rotation angle of a detection object with a simple slit structure. SOLUTION: This rotation angle detection device has a constitution equipped with the first and second sub-gears 20, 30 having T-shaped slits 22, 32 formed thereon including a rotation axis C1, and rotating synchronously with a steering shaft 2 whose rotation angle is a detection object; a light emitting diode for irradiating light toward the surfaces of both sub-gears 20, 30; and image sensors having respectively a plurality of light receiving elements arrayed along a circle centered at each rotating shaft of both sub-gears 20, 30, and arranged oppositely to each back of both sub-gears 20, 30. The rotation angle of the steering shaft 2 is detected, based on discrimination by the light receiving element sensing light irradiated from the light emitting diode and transmitted through the slits 22, 32.
