PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing a quinolinol useful as a raw material for drugs, agricultural chemicals, electronic materials and the like from aminophenols in high yield. SOLUTION: This production method comprises reacting o-, m- or p-aminophenol with glycerin or acrolein in an amount of 0.9-10 times the mole of the aminophenol in a sulfuric acid aqueous solution having a sulfuric acid concentration of 40-65 wt.% in the presence of iodine or an iodine compound as an oxidizing agent at a temperature of 135-180°C under autogenous pressure or under pressure to produce 6-, 7- or 8-quinolinol.
