Preparation of thin sheets comprises impregnating the surface layer of an under sheet held in a impregnating mechanism in a molten solution containing metal material or semiconductor material in the main chamber of a crucible (2), in which the under sheet is passed through a side chamber next to the main chamber (1) after being taken out of the main chamber. Independent claims are also included for the following: (i) a similar method in which the impregnating mechanism has a first under sheet transporting means at the direction of removal, a second transporting means transporting under sheet in a direction opposite to that of the first one, and a rotating means controlled by the transport means and being able to rotate the under sheet by 360[deg]; (ii) a similar method in which the crucible has multiple impregnating mechanisms; and (iii) apparatus for carrying out the methods.
