PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel image processing technologies for a still image picked up by an electronic still camera.

SOLUTION: An electronic still camera 10 comprises an electronic image sensor 16 which generates an image signal corresponding to a still image of a subject, and an orientation determination section 36 for sensing the orientation of the camera relative to the subject. The orientation determination section 36 provides an orientation signal recognizing either the vertical or the horizontal orientation of the camera relative to the subject. The orientation signal is output to a removable solid-state memory card 24 together with the still image. A computer system 28 receives the orientation signal and the still image from the removable solid-state memory card 24 and implements exposure control on the still image in accordance with the orientation signal.
