PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigerator having high capacity efficiency capable of deodorizing and eliminating bacteria. SOLUTION: A storage chamber 2 is equipped with an air blower 63 for taking in air in the storage chamber 2 for storing a storing object and blowing air into the storage chamber 2, and a deodorizing unit 60 having an ion generator 64 for generating ions by electrical discharge. This refrigerator has a deodorizing mode for deodorizing air in the storage chamber 2 by ozone generated by the ion generator 64, and a bacteria eliminating mode for reducing the electrical discharge amount of the ion generator 64 more than in the deodorizing mode and eliminating bacteria in the storage chamber 2 by ions generated by the ion generator 64.
