PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biomass-carbonizing apparatus, by which a carbide with a higher calorific value can be obtained with high thermal efficiency. SOLUTION: Pulverized products primarily pulverized by a primary pulverizer 40 are supplied to a carbonization furnace 50 and then mixed with a heating medium 47 that has been heated by a heating-medium-preheating apparatus 45, so as to be carbonized. Heat is generated in a combustion furnace 49 by combustion of dry distilled gases that have been generated in the carbonization furnace 50. The heat is then supplied to the heating-medium-heating apparatus 45, so as to heat the heating medium 47. A separator 52 is used for separating carbides generated in the carbonization furnace 50 from the heating medium 47. The thus separated heating medium 47 is returned to the heating-medium-preheating apparatus 45 via a transport means such as a belt conveyer, heated again, and then supplied to the carbonization furnace 50.
