PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid failure in printing due to decrease in printing density causing blur, which is caused for the reason that the gap between a hammer and platen varies due to the thermal expansion of each component at the time of temperature rise with a continuous printing movement to increase a printing load to an ink ribbon because a gap between the hammer and platen is clogged. SOLUTION: Based on the number of times of drive per unit time of a printing hammer or the measurement result of a temperature measuring means installed in the housing of a dot printer or the measurement result of a gap between hammer/platen measurement means for measuring the gap between the printing hammer and the platen, the changeover time of the low travel speed and usual travel speed of the ink ribbon is changed.
