A coating composition (C1) comprises at least one hydroxy-functional polyester (A), a crosslinking agent (B) and optionally at least one additional hydroxy functional binder (D) other than (A). (A) Has at least two hydroxyl groups per mole, of which at least one is a tertiary hydroxyl group. (D) Is capable of cross-linking (A) and (B). A coating composition (C1) comprises at least one hydroxy-functional polyester (A), a cross-linking agent (B) and optionally at least one additional hydroxy functional binder (D) other than (A). (A) Has a molecular weight of 200 - 5000 and contains at least two hydroxyl groups per mole and at least (10 - 90 wt.%) of a tertiary hydroxyl group of formula -OC(O)-R1- C(R2)(R3)OH (I). (D) Is capable of crosslinking (A) and (B). R1single bond or 1-6C alkyl; and R2 and R31-4C alkyl.
