The electric toothbrush has an electromagnetic drive (8) for a movable brush support, whereby the drive has at least one electromagnet (14,15) that produces a reciprocal motion. A flexible drive element is provided for transferring the drive motion to the brush support. The flexible drive element (10) is in the form of a toothed belt (11) or drive cable. Independent claims are included for the following: (A) an electromagnetic drive (B) and a replacement brush.
