The device has a supply pipe (3a) for supplying a mixture of a lubricant and refrigerant to the device. A separation unit (7) is provided downstream to the supply line for separation of the lubricant and the refrigerant. A supply point (19) is arranged downstream to the separation unit regarding to the separated lubricant flow for the supply of separated lubricant. A compressor (1) and a gas cooler (2) of the cooling system are not arranged between the supply pipe and the supply point with respect to the refrigerant flow. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a cooling system.
