1283564 Life jackets GENTEX CORP 16 Dec 1969 [3 Feb 1969] 61298/69 Heading A3V [Also in Division B7] A life saving buoyancy device for constraining a wearer floating in a buoyant medium to a face up position, includes a first buoyant mass formed by two members 14, 16 of different buoyancies and made from e.g. unicellular foamed polyvinyl chloride, the members 14, 16 being fitted in fabric envelopes 18, 20 one on either side of the chest and being connected by cords 48, 50 to secondary buoyant masses 44, 46 positioned on the wearer's forearms. A further buoyant mass 28 may be disposed behind the shoulders of the wearer, the mass 28 and members 14, 16 being secured by belts 36, 38. Each secondary buoyant mass is formed as a tapered annuar body of material, such as expanded p.v.c., engaging a forearm by interior bosses or undulations. In an alternative embodiment as in Fig. 8 (not shown) the buoyant masses are incorporated in a sleeved jacket. |
