An apparatus for rubbing an alignment layer is provided to stably install the rubbing apparatus and rub the alignment layer with uniform strength by supporting a part of weight of the rubbing apparatus through a frame and thus minimizing influence due to a load, and accurately and smoothly rotate a rubbing roll by guiding rotation of a head by using an R-guide. An alignment rubbing apparatus(20) has a base(52). A frame(50) is installed on the base. A head(60) is placed over the frame for rotating. A support(70) is installed in the frame, to be connected with the head through shafts(72). A lift unit(67) is installed at the support for lifting a rubbing roll(35). An R-guide(54) is installed on the frame. An LM(Linear Motion) block(69) has a guide groove for inserting the R-guide. A rubbing table(30) is installed on the base.
