摘要 An apparatus and a method for driving a liquid crystal display are provided to prevent horizontal line defect due to a brightness difference between scan lines by reducing any one of two vertically adjacent liquid crystal cells to which data signals of the same polarity are supplied and thus causing the charging condition of the two liquid crystal cells to be equal. An apparatus for driving a liquid crystal display adopts a vertical 2-dot inversion driving method in which the polarity of a data signal is inverted in a horizontal direction every dot and is inverted in a vertical direction every two dots. A liquid crystal panel(112) includes a plurality of liquid crystal cells formed at the crossing portions of gate and data lines. A gate driver(114) drives the gate lines. A data driver(116) changes any one of the data signals at N-th and (N+1)-th horizontal periods, wherein the data signals are supplied to each of the two vertically neighboring liquid crystal cells, and supplies the changed signal to the data lines. A timing control unit(110) controls the operation of the gate driver and the data driver.
