A communication device is provided to allow the hearing disabled or the visually disabled to conveniently recognize content of a lecture in a class by obtaining the content as characters or voice. A signal conversion unit(10) converts an analog voice signal inputted through a microphone(MIC) into a digital signal and outputs it, and converts an inputted digital signal into an analog voice signal. A data conversion unit(11) converts the digital signal inputted from the signal conversion unit(10) into voice coded data and outputs it, and converts inputted voice coded data into a digital signal. A local area communication unit(12) wirelessly transmits the voice coded data inputted from the data conversion unit(11) to an external device, and outputs the received voice coded data to the data conversion unit(11). When a digital signal is inputted from the signal conversion unit(10) or the data conversion unit, a character conversion unit(13) reads a corresponding character from a character DB(14) and outputs it. A display unit(15) displays the character inputted from the character conversion unit(13).
